Darren Scott

Jacob Oickle


Darren has worked with some of the top food service suppliers in Nova Scotia over the past 20 years. From retail and distribution to finance, accounting and management, he has worked in all aspects of the food distribution supply chain. Five years spent working in South Korea further shaped his appreciation for great food and he has brought some of that inspiration into The Turtleback’s menu. Darren has a passion for co-operatives, buy local initiatives and community involvement. He lives in Halifax with his wife.


Jaro's 20 years of international restaurant experience is obvious when you step into The Turtleback. His rapport with guests and his love for the industry makes everyone feel at home. Jaro's extensive knowledge of food and beverage makes him a great leader. This has always been his dream and he is thrilled to be able to share this dream with his community. Jaro lives in Fall River with his wife and two sons.

Head Chef

Jacob is a passionate and hardworking chef who began working in the kitchen at the age of 17. He received his diploma in culinary arts from NSCC, receiving a foundation award and making the culinary team in first and second year.  Jacob competed in the Skills Canada National Competition in 2012 and placed third. He obtained his Red Seal certification at age 24. Jacob has worked at the Hilton Garden Inn, the Atlantica Hotel Halifax, Shannex, and with the Aramark Remote Muskrat Falls project. Jacob lives in Elmsdale with his wife and two daughters.
